A Kazakh telemedicine startup scaled their video consultation platform to support real-time diagnoses, e-prescriptions, and multilingual care across 5 languages.
Köktem Health launched in Almaty in 2024 with a simple mission: bring quality healthcare to Kazakhs regardless of geography. Initial traction was strong, but their homegrown platform buckled under load during peak hours and lacked critical features like e-prescriptions and medical record integration.
We rebuilt Köktem's infrastructure on a scalable Node.js/PostgreSQL stack with real-time WebSocket connections for video consultations using Janus WebRTC. We implemented an e-prescription system integrated with Kazakhstan's national pharmacy network, automatic appointment reminders via SMS/Telegram, and medical records that comply with local data protection laws. The platform now supports consultations in Kazakh, Russian, English, Korean, and Uyghur.
Since the redesign, Köktem has completed 18,500 consultations, averaging 4.1 minutes from booking to doctor response. Patient satisfaction landed at 4.8/5 stars. The platform now onboards 800 doctors monthly, and prescription fulfillment automation cut pharmacy friction by 76%. Köktem expanded to serve Kyrgyzstan and has plans to enter Uzbekistan by Q3 2026. They're on track to become Central Asia's leading telemedicine network.
