A Kyrgyz mobile-first marketplace replaced ad hoc Facebook groups with a structured C2C platform, capturing $12M annualized GMV and 156K MAUs in under 18 months.

Bishkek's second-hand market was dominated by Facebook Groups—fragmented, unmoderated, and nearly impossible to search. Scams were rampant, and buyers had no way to verify sellers. Three entrepreneurs spotted the opportunity: build a proper marketplace for Kyrgyzstan's C2C economy.

We designed Bishkek Bazar as a mobile-first React Native app (iOS and Android) with a lightweight backend in Node.js. The platform includes seller verification with ID checks, in-app messaging to prevent off-platform fraud, a rating system, and automated fraud detection using behavioral signals. Payment processing via Optima, Kyrgyzstan's major payment provider, kept friction to a minimum. Everything is in Kyrgyz and Russian.

Launch was explosive. Within 12 months, Bishkek Bazar accumulated 47,000 active listings, 156,000 monthly active users, and annualized GMV of $12 million—proving that with trust and ease of use, the market was hungry. Seller onboarding takes 5 minutes, and the fraud rate sits below 0.8%. The founding team turned down acquisition offers and is scaling aggressively—plans include regional expansion to Osh and international expansion to other Central Asian cities by Q4 2026.
